The DC Office of Planning recently released a draft report on the Urban Design Framework for Buzzard Point including the impact if the new D.C. United Stadium is approved for this neighborhood. It is very impressive when you realize how much this neighborhood is going to transform in the next 5-20 years with transportation improvements, a new stadium, over 6,000 new residential units and over 10,000,000 square feet of commercial development. It truly is the missing link between the Capital Riverfront/Navy Yard to the East and the The Wharf to the West.
Prior to the Urban Design Framework Report there was quite a bit of study/research and planning initiated in 2009 by The District and Council man Tommy Wells office to have the American Planning Association assist D.C. in developing a long term development plan for the Buzzard Point area which makes up a significant portion of the D.C. Stadium District. You can see that the D.C. United Stadium project was not a big component of this work, but there are many interesting parts of the study that give some insight to the issues/goals developed by it.
